By accessing chesskq.com, creating an account, or enrolling in any program offered by Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC ("CKQ," "we," "our," or "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company.
Accounts may only be created by individuals who are 18 years of age or older. Students who are minors (under 18) may participate in CKQ programs only with the account, consent, and active involvement of a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian is the contracting party and is responsible for all obligations under these Terms, including payment.
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at admin@chesskq.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
CKQ offers chess education programs for students ages 5–18, delivered online and in-person at locations in New Jersey and North Carolina:
All payments are processed securely by Stripe. CKQ does not store full payment card numbers. By providing payment information, you authorize us to charge the applicable fees as described below.
Sibling discounts may be available for families enrolling multiple children in the same service. Discount eligibility is determined at the time of enrollment.
Group class subscriptions are billed monthly. The billing amount depends on your selected schedule and skill level, as shown at enrollment.
To cancel a group class subscription, log in to your parent portal and cancel directly — no written notice or email is required. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle. No partial-month credits are issued except as permitted under our schedule change policy.
Private lessons are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. Payment is charged after each completed session at the rate agreed upon at enrollment. There is no ongoing subscription — you may stop scheduling sessions at any time without notice.
Online private lessons are conducted as one-on-one video sessions between the coach and student. By enrolling in a private online lesson, the parent or guardian acknowledges and consents to this format. A parent is encouraged to be present or nearby during online private sessions.
The billing rate for private sessions is confirmed via a checkbox at the time of enrollment. That accepted rate governs all sessions under that enrollment.
Camp registration fees are charged at the time of registration. A deposit may be required to secure your spot; deposit terms are displayed at registration.
Camp registration fees are non-refundable once registration is confirmed. If CKQ cancels a camp, a full refund will be issued.
Tournament registration fees are non-refundable once the registration period closes, regardless of whether the student participates. If CKQ cancels a tournament, a full refund will be issued.
USCF-rated tournaments are conducted in accordance with USCF rules. Players are expected to know and follow USCF rules of conduct.
All fees are final. CKQ does not issue refunds for change of mind, scheduling conflicts, or missed classes. Because group class subscriptions are self-service cancellable from the parent portal, and private classes are pay-as-you-go, there is no routine basis for refund requests.
Emergency exception. We will consider refund requests in genuine emergency situations — defined as an unexpected medical emergency or serious family crisis. Emergency refund requests must be submitted to admin@chesskq.com within 14 days of the charge, accompanied by supporting documentation (e.g., a physician's note or similar written proof). Approved emergency refunds are issued at our sole discretion.
By enrolling in any CKQ program, the parent or guardian grants Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to photograph and record students during classes, camps, tournaments, and other CKQ activities (online and in-person).
Media captured may be used for:
We will never sell student images or videos to third parties. Media will not be used for any commercial purpose outside of CKQ's own marketing.
To opt out of the media release for your child, email admin@chesskq.com with your child's name and a written opt-out request before their first enrolled program. Opt-outs are applied prospectively.
All students, parents, and participants are expected to treat coaches, staff, and fellow students with respect at all times — in classes, tournaments, online sessions, and all CKQ-related communications.
The following are strictly prohibited:
CKQ reserves the right to suspend or terminate a student's enrollment for conduct violations without issuing a refund. Repeated or serious violations may result in a permanent ban.
All content on the CKQ platform — including lesson materials, PGN files, curriculum, videos, images, logos, and software — is the proprietary property of Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use platform content for your personal, non-commercial educational use only. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit any CKQ content without prior written permission.
For online classes, students are responsible for providing a compatible device (computer, tablet, or similar), a stable internet connection, and any required software (such as a video conferencing application). CKQ is not responsible for technical difficulties caused by the student's equipment or internet service.
CKQ services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee any specific educational outcome, chess rating improvement, or tournament result. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC, its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or loss of learning opportunity, arising out of or related to your use of our services.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising under these Terms will not exceed the total fees you paid to CKQ in the three (3) months immediately preceding the claim.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kings and Queens Chess Academy LLC and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising out of or related to your violation of these Terms, your use of our services, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Informal resolution. Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at admin@chesskq.com and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the matter informally.
Binding arbitration. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or our services will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. You may also bring individual claims in small claims court if your claim qualifies.
Class action waiver. You agree to resolve disputes with CKQ individually and not as a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding.
We may update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most current version. Continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
